地震时怎样保护自己

Chapter 616: 618: Missed (5)

A malignant tumor, that would mean cancer. They would have to wait for the biopsy results to know for sure.

The doctor didn’t reveal this news to Lu’s mother first; he told Lu Weixi. She was only 22 at that time. In her previous years, she had always been treated like a princess, pampered and taken care of. The only losses she had experienced so far had been the deaths of her grandparents when she was four or five, and a beloved pet dog being stolen. The most unforgettable setback had been her father’s affair last year.

To her, her mother was everything and now, her world collapsed in an instant.

Her first instinct was to call Bai Changyou, however as she scrolled through her contacts, she hesitated. Instead, she looked up Qin Zhigu’s number.

Then immediately dialed it.

But Qin Zhigu didn’t respond.

Lu Weixi was persistent, making a second call, a third, until finally, on the fourth try, someone picked up – it was Kong Jie. “Hello?”

His voice put Lu Weixi’s emotional turmoil at ease, she asked, “Aunt, where is Zhisu?”

“He’s talking with his grandfather, is there something important?”

Lu Weixi was about to mention her mother’s as yet undiagnosed illness, uncertain of what it was, hoping against hope it was benign.

“No, nothing, it’s just that I haven’t talked to him for a while, I want to wish him and Uncle and Aunt a happy new year.”

“Oh, alright then, Weixi when you have time, come over for a visit.” Despite the changes at home, Lu Weixi was still Bai Changyou’s daughter; he wouldn’t ignore her, and Qin’s grandfather liked her too. Their parents wouldn’t be so superficial as to isolate her just because her parents were divorced.

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Lu Weixi truly felt reluctant to call him again.

She took a deep breath, it’s okay, she thought, she would wait for the news, and no matter how devastating the outcome, she would stand by her mother throughout.

After the eighth day, the two days following were the weekend. The pathological sample couldn’t be tested. However, the day the result arrived was exactly on the day of the Lantern Festival.

And that day, was the day her mother’s results would be out.

These past few days, Lu’s mother was feeling something was wrong with her own health condition.

Lu Weixi didn’t want to keep her in the dark, she told her there was a tumor in her abdomen, but whether it was benign or malignant, she couldn’t be sure.

Lu’s mother was rather composed; she was just worried that her daughter couldn’t bear it.

As they were about to leave for the hospital, Qin Zhiyou arrived.

It was the Lantern Festival today, and he figured that Lu Weixi probably wouldn’t chase him away, so he came over.

“Hello, Aunt, hello Weixi.”

Lu Weixi just gave him a glance and ignored him. Lu’s mother just nodded as a greeting, looking pale.

Qin Zhiyou was quick to notice, seeing the bag in Lu Weixi’s hand they seemed ready to go out, “Where are you guys going? I can give you a ride.”

“No need, we have called a cab.”

Lu Weixi rejected blandly, walking all the way to the entrance of the neighborhood, with Qin Zhiyou following them. After they got into their cab, he also got into his car and followed them.

All the way to the hospital, Lu Weixi and her mother got off first. Qin Zhiyou parked his car at the side of the road, considering a parking ticket a minor risk, and then got off to follow them into the hospital.

Unfortunately, before they could even reach the hospital’s entrance, Lu’s mother was in so much pain that she couldn’t walk.
