Chapter 327: Dealing with the Aftermath.
"Bloody hell!" Those were the only words that managed to escape from his mouth.
'Did I do that?!' Cain stared at the destruction he had created with wide eyes.
A large crater filled with dead bodies was created by the pillar of lightning. Flashes of electricity still lingered seconds after the magical attack had been unleashed. The scent of incinerated corpses perforated through the air. Burning corpses fell from the sky every once in a while as the entire flock of {Dusk Canaries} were burnt black.
Cain turned to the side to see Evangeline looking at him with an unreadable expression on her face.
Cain had nothing to say...
Suddenly, three powerful, and enraged presences could be felt from the crater.
Cain grinned at Evangeline, then shrugged as he pointed at the charred, but still very lively {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger},
"Go get them..."
Snorting, Evangeline directed her bloodlust at the three creatures that were now diving at her and Cain with madness in their gaze.
The {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} was an absolute behemoth of a beast. It wielded a very large harpoon made from a very long piece of bone that had signs of being sharpened.
When it stood on its hind limbs, it was about ten feet tall, towering over Cain who could be considered a tall human. Compared to that, Evangeline seemed rather small and dainty. However, beneath her petite exterior lay a savage and brutal demon that sought to drink the blood of her victims.
If the Aether beasts knew what was good for it, it would have tucked its tail behind and ran with all the speed it could muster. Instead, it summoned the element of wind around its long weapon.
The harpoon shot forward with insane speed, straight at Evangeline's head. Her eyes partially closed, Evangeline tilted her head to the side, allowing the wind from the harpoon to brush against her cheeks.
The {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} dropped to all four and charged at Evangeline. It had lost its entire clan, so it was rightfully mad. Its fury knew no bounds. As the leader of its clan, it sought vengeance with blood. Only by drinking the blood of these creatures of destruction would he be able to atone for this sin.
The {Incendiary Dusk Canary} was the most furious out of all of them. With a loud caw that sent vibrations rippling through the air, she took to the skies. Even though one of her wings had been burnt badly by the maximum output {Heavenly Blue Lightning}, her fury was such that she didn't care about it. The avial creature was very powerful. Her wingspan alone was about fifty meters.
Soaring into the skies, she shot a fiery ball of flames at Evangeline at the same time, blades of hot metal were shot out from her winds, blotching out a portion of the skies.
The {Millennium Earth Beetle} was the least harmed out of the three. That didn't mean it wasn't pissed. It had lost all its kin in the span of a few seconds. Cain's attack had been truly frightening. The power to wipe out three groups of powerful Aether beasts at once wasn't something a single person should possess.
The beast rose out from the earth and charged at Evangeline, its numerous legs striking the ground furiously as it clicked its large mandibles together.
Together, their power could rival that of the {Chaos Orc}. They were by no means easy opponents. However, Evangeline was in a league of her own entirely.
The {Fireball} and {Torrent of Blades} summoned by the {Incendiary Dusk Canary} fell towards her without any pause. However, she didn't take a step to move out of the way. Just before they could get within a few meters of her, both spells began to unravel.
The energy contained within them dissipated until they were simply no more. The Aether beats on the other hand were too furious to notice this anomaly.
The {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} was fast and was already about to reach Evangeline.
Her slightly rustic and hoarse voice rang out, making Cain's ears tingle as he watched all this happen from afar, his eye gleaming...
Evangeline on the other hand had a bored expression on her face. Cain saw her activate a very familiar hand seal,
"Blood Manipulation: Blood of Black Rendition..."
This was the same spell she had used to deal tremendous amounts of damage to the eye of the Primordial Devil of Chaos. And now, she was using it against a creature like the {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger}.
At point-blank range, there was no way the Aethrr beast could dodge.
There was a loud bang...
Cain watched as the {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} collapsed to the ground, headless...
'What the hell?!' Cain knew that the spell was powerful. However, that was not what surprised him. Although the spell was powerful, if the opponent was fast enough, they could still dodge before Evangeline was able to pull the shot off.
Although the {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} was angry, it was also viciously intelligent. There was no way it wouldn't have been able to dodge. Cain gave Evangeline a meaningful look.
She was by no means simple. Her timing, her positioning, and her wonderful control of her energy were so wonderful, that the {Twin-Fanged Savage Tiger} had no idea she was about to attack until she did. Cain suspected that even he would fall for the same trick if he hadn't seen it before, and would probably lose his head as well.
'So damn scary!' Cain exclaimed inwardly.
However, Evangeline didn't stop there. Instead, she pointed her fingers to the sky, her hand seal still active.
"Blood of Black Rendition."
BANG!
Another shot was released. The arrow of Devil Essence-infused blood tore through one of the flying beast's wings. The Aether beast lost control of its flight and crashed towards the ground.
Before it could hit the ground, Evangeline fired another shot that hit its chest, killing it before it made contact with the ground.
"Two..." Cain could see her lips move.
As soon as the {Millennium Earth Beetle} saw how fast its two comrades had died, it immediately turned around on its heels and began digging into the ground.
"Where do you think you're going?" Evangeline said softly.
Before her words could be completed, the cowardly creature had dug into the ground. The {Earth Beetles} were masters of escape. As their leader, the {Millennium Earth Beetle} could only be better at this difficult-to-master art.
However, Evangeline didn't plan on leaving any survivors. Cain noticed that the sky seemed to turn darker for a moment. That was because Evangeline had summoned a monstrous amount of Devil Essence.
Cain's jaw slackened when he sensed how bountiful and thick the dark and evil energy was. Even thicker and more ominous, was the blood elemental mana that surged in the air. For a time, Cain wondered where he was. Crimson light saturated the air as Evangeline aimed, one of her eyes closed.
"Blood Manipulation: Blood of Black Rendition..."
The crimson light and devouring darkness mingled together and became one. The arrow of blood pierced through the ground and struck her target which had already traveled hundreds of meters into the ground.
A breath of steamy air escaped from her slightly parted lips as the dangerous light in her eyes slowly faded away.
She turned to look at Cain with a smug look in her eyes...
Cain didn't know what to say. 'Welcome' or 'You did well' didn't seem like the appropriate thing to say in this situation. He deliberated keeping his mouth shut but looking at her face, he could tell that there was no way she would be content with that.
As such, he swallowed a mouthful of saliva and spoke,
"That was incredible!"
A small smile played at the edge of her lips but she did her best to hide it. Regardless, it didn't escape Cain's watchful eyes. So, he decided to press the advantage,
"Your control is immaculate. As expected of you! That spell was beyond impressive. Far more impressive than any other spell I have ever seen..."
As Cain continued to bombard Evangeline with compliments, her face gradually transformed from haughty to slightly pink from embarrassment, to a full shade of red as she glared at Cain.
Laughing hysterically on the inside, Cain continued to shower her with praises until she finally snapped,
"Shut up, damn it!" She growled before stomping her feet and turning away from Cain.
'Who knew she had this side to her...' Cain thought as he dusted his hands and stood up from his sitting position.
Cain turned his attention away from the brooding girl and into the huge crater a few hundred meters away. The edges of the crater were still glowing with heat. Cain shivered at the memory of how it felt to face the wrath of the world.
'I'll have to exercise caution when using that skill. Something tells me there is more to it than meets the eye.'
Cain turned to Evangeline, "Let's harvest the mana shards."
This time, she didn't run away immediately. Cain counted this as a win with a grin on his face.
"What the hell are you smiling at?!" Evangeline said, killing intent leaking from her voice. Cain shivered as he turned around on his heels,
"Nothing..." Saying that, he walked away as fast as he could.
Cain's mind churned with greed as he imagined just how many mana shards they would be able to get from so many Aether beasts.
