The Young Matriarch

Chapter 6: Dogfight

Both mother and daughter looked at Bai Chuwei, warily.

Bai Yinyin dug her fingernails into her palms and clenched her teeth. She was completely flustered by this girl’s presence.

A country bumpkin becoming the adopted daughter of the Bai family and snatch away her position in the family? Dream on!

Bai Yinyin glared at Bai Chuwei, hatefully. Did she think that she had become invincible now with her father and grandfather as her support? She shall let her know the difference between the real deal and a fake one soon!

Bai Guofu glanced at his second son rolling on the ground in pain and awkwardly smiled at Bai Chuwei. He had never expected… that the ancestor would agree to be registered under his second son so easily. “That’s enough, stop embarrassing yourself!”

Bai Guofu cleared his throat and said to his granddaughter, “Yinyin, the ancestor would be without a phone right now. Get the latest model for her. I heard that there are some fruit brand or X brand phones. Whichever is the best, just buy that. I’ll have the money wired to your account.”

Bai Yinyin trembled in anger. She had been using her current phone for a year now, but why hadn’t her grandfather bought the newest phone for her? She also wanted the latest mobile phone!

A strong sense of crisis enveloped her and her gaze towards Bai Chuwei became increasingly unfriendly.

Bai Chuwei wasn’t bothered by Bai Yinyin’s gaze and she flipped her hair back. After a moment, she asked in an indifferent voice. “Where’s my room?”

Bai Yinyin’s thought of a great idea and quickly jumped up. “It’s on the third floor! We prepared it for you, specially.”

The third floor contained a small attic and its surface area was less than half the size of her bedroom. It had been used previously by their nanny for a long period of time before it became a storage room.

For a country bumpkin like Bai Chuwei, she only deserved to stay in a storage room!

Just as Bai Guofu was about to flare up, Bai Chuwei answered with indifference. “So be it.”

For someone who had lived for thousands of years, Bai Chuwei was no longer concerned with material comfort. Rather than following the original plot of staying opposite Bai Yinyin’s room and getting disturbed by her all the time, it was better to stay alone on the third floor.

She got up elegantly and headed towards the third floor.

Her demeanor resembled an immortal and her posture was graceful, capturing the attention of all the servants who were present there.

“Too… Isn’t she too beautiful? Just like a fairy.”

“She’s really graceful, none of the young ladies in Sea City possess such elegance! Miss Chuwei has such a cool temperament.”

“…”

Bai Yinyin stomped her foot in anger and frustration as she heard this.

While Bai Guofu chased after Bai Chuwei all the way to the third floor, Liu Man looked at her husband and gnashed her teeth, scolding him. “Bai Hongguang! You better find a chance quickly to throw this slut, Bai Chuwei, out. Our family has no money to support useless people!”

*

Even though the third floor consisted only of a small attic, it was very clean. There was a single bed and a desk with a large window in the room. Climbing out of the window would lead one directly to the rooftop.

It was indeed small, but quiet and clean.

Bai Guofu shook his head and said, “Ancestor, how can you stay in such a confined space? I shall arrange a better room for you.”

In fact, he was feeling helpless. It was only yesterday, when his ancestor suddenly mentioned about descending the mountains and wanting to stay here. He had not found adequate time to prepare a suitable room for her during this period.

Bai Chuwei waved her hand and said, “This will do.”

The old man did not dare to go against the ancestor’s decision and could only sigh. He hesitated for a moment before he asked awkwardly. “Respected ancestor, how did you prolong your lifespan?”

Bai Chuwei patted Bai Guofu’s grizzled hair and smiled. “Little Fu, what’s so good about living for so long? You’ll have to constantly send others away, not knowing till when you have to continue walking this path.”

After pondering over it, he agreed with the ancestor’s words. The Bai Family was wealthy and both his sons had grown up well to have a family of their own. Even his grandchildren could be considered as capable people. There was no point coveting any extra years.

After Bai Guofu left, Bai Chuwei sat down before the desk and looked out of the window at the pouring rain. Right then, a white hairy ball made its way inside the room.
