Chapter 488 Arriving home-1
Chapter 488 Arriving home-1
" We can't do anything about it. Due to how busy the police had been, it was a pipe dream for her to come with us on such short notice." Samuel replied as he started to look around for their car.
" Still, I should have stayed with her. She fears she will feel lonely being herself."
" How would I take care of Elise alone? She needs someone that she recognizes other than me, right? We already discussed it."
" I know. I just feel bad; she was so happy about visiting London. It's been years since we have taken a vacation. Due to the nature of her work, she would always be busy, and when she did get leave, I would be busy with my work."
" Quit worrying about her. Hand me the sleeping princess and think about what we will face here." Samuel took Elise, who was dizzying off in Mayra's arms. Although the private jet was top-notch, it was much worse compared to what Samuel's jumbo flight had.
Comparing a hundred million planes to something that cost closer to eight hundred million after modification was preposterous; still, it resulted in everyone getting heavier jet lag. Elise was the most affected; it was hard to tell if she had ever ridden a plane before because it only took a couple of hours, and she was already in such a bad condition.
" Right."
" You haven't told your parents or family, right?" Samuel asked.
" No, not yet. I need to feel it a little by contacting my mother and sister first. I will decide after seeing how my father reacts; you know how things are."
" That's fine by me. Don't forget I will be there throughout it, so just do as you see fit. If they try to make things difficult for you, I will back you up." Samuel reassured her. He didn't know the full extent of her pressure, but he wanted to be there for her.
He knew her family was influential in this country, but they would have to give some face to Samuel if he decided to make a move. With his name attached, they wouldn't dare to make trouble for her.
Arthur took care of their luggage; Samuel was already traveling light except for a few things he brought with Kayla and Mayra. Other than that, most of the items were for Elise. Samuel did send a few people to collect souvenirs for Grey and the other kids in the family. They would hound him if he went home without buying things for them!
Soon, their car departed from the airport; it was an SUV with ample space. Samuel could lay Elise down on his lap; she was clutching his fingers with her tiny hands and smiling in her sleep. It was good that she was dreaming about something good.
" Now that I think about it. Did you already tell your mother about us?" Mayra popped an important question. Due to their urgency of leaving, they hadn't discussed it. Samuel also told them he wanted to take them away due to the recent attack on Elise and didn't emphasize what his mother 'ordered' him to do.
" In what way? She already knows you as my college friends. I believe you guys met a few times in the past; otherwise, I didn't say anything specific." Samuel shrugged, showing it was not his problem.
" What? You are telling me this now! What should I say when I meet your family!?"
" Eh? Do you have to say anything? Shit! If they know you are married, it would only make things complicated! Should we turn back now? We can flee the country while we have a chance!" Samuel's acting shined as Mayra believed his act completely. Seeing him panic made her realize they rushed a lot.
It would have been good if they had discussed the trip more clearly. Mayra was aware of Samuel's mother, Laura's temperament. One could say she was the idol of a working woman who commanded an enormous financial empire in the palm of her hand while still managing her family with a gentle and caring attitude.
Several interviews were present online, and countless articles detailing her ruthless nature in business. Being from an elite family herself, Mayra was well aware of Laura's famous love story, too. She was a perfect being in her eyes, but how would she react if such a person knew that Samuel was messing around with a married woman?
Most blame would fall on Mayra, knowing she approached him first. Wouldn't she think Mayra had a loose character to begin with? Negative thoughts invaded her mind as she began sweating profusely, even under AC.
" We should! Turn the car around! I want to meet the demoness! She would kill me for enticing her cherished son!" Apparently, she also heard about her nickname!
" Pff.... hahaha, enticing cherished son? That's the first time I heard something like this! hahaha, omg, I can't stop laughing." Samuel almost woke Elise with how loud he was giggling, hearing Mayra.
" Ahem," Arthur, riding in the front seat, cleared his throat. It's not like he didn't find the situation amusing; he had more control over his outbursts.
" Miss Mayra, you don't have to worry about it. Lady Laura already knows everything; hiding anything from her is hard. She is already aware of your arrival and specifically requested your presence." He clarified a few things; Mayra was initially relieved, but she immediately felt annoyed with how Samuel teased her.
" How could you be so mean? I am done talking to you. Humph." She turned away. Samuel was enjoying her vivid expression, but now he felt real panic. What did she mean that she was done talking?
" Mr. Arthur, how much does she know? I mean..you know..about us?" She started talking with Arthur in turn and asked him for more details.
" That's, I guess, everything. Young Master hasn't been an easy person since he was a kid. No one knows how or why he would react to most things. It's been hard on many people. That's why Lady Laura came up with a full surveillance routine."
" What? That means everyone knows what we did..." She stopped talking, but Arthur understood her concerns.
" No, not like that; we will not invade his privacy. Just keep a look out from afar."
" Phew, that's good."
" You don't have to worry about anything. Most blame lies with the young master, so just be your usual self."
" Why did I feel so offended by that?" Samuel jumped into the conversation when he saw Arthur was making fun of him.
" Don't blame me. It's what you done." Arthur shrugged as he continued his conversation with Mayra. They talked throughout the journey and finally arrived at the estate after one hour.
