Chapter 298: 295 Escape Success
“Danger!”
Jerret suddenly stood up, his reaction mimicking that of countless viewers at that moment, who could hardly contain their exclamations. The ones in public spaces even attracted quite a bit of attention, but they didn’t care at all, their minds were tensely focused on Bi Fang alone.
In desperation, Bi Fang wrapped his arms around the tree, but it was so sudden, he couldn’t grip the trunk tightly; instead, the bark slipped, and he lost his grip again. With no other choice, he could only reach out with one hand to grab a broken branch ahead.
Fortunately, the situation wasn’t beyond redemption. Bi Fang successfully grabbed onto a branch and dangled below the giant tree, calming his wildly pounding heart.
This branch was the same one that Goulbin had squatted down to hold onto a moment ago, and now, in turn, it had saved his life.
In the midst of the ravine lay the horizontal giant tree.
Bi Fang’s right hand clung firmly to the branch, and below him was a waterfall gushing furiously.
The melting snow from the Rocky Mountains replenishes the rivers and lakes, accounting for one quarter of all the fresh water sources in Zhan Chou Country, with the rivers originated from the Rocky Mountains flowing into three oceans: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean.
At that moment, it was a waterfall less than three meters wide, but the water was incredibly turbulent.
The massive flow of water plunged into the ravine with the force of thunderbolts, creating a majestic and fatal rapid. Falling into the ravine emitted a thunderous roar, and along the way, there were boulders protruding; if one fell into them, they would be smashed to pieces going down the flood-draining waterfall.
“Hu.”
Bi Fang took a deep breath in and slowly exhaled, calming his tense nerves. With his current strength, he could pull himself up with one arm, but the Brown Bear in no way seemed willing to let his prey that was within reach slip away so easily and continued to press down hard on the tree.
The muscle lines suddenly became more pronounced, and just as Bi Fang was about to pull himself up, he felt the tree tense up and all the force he’d mustered was suddenly released like a flood.
Bi Fang fiercely looked towards the Brown Bear.
Such ferocity.
The hunting capabilities of brown bears were originally not that great, and though it was early spring, the temperature hadn’t fully recovered yet, and the vegetation was still withering. Roaming brown bears could only eat carcasses, and they might even fight with tigers to the bitter end over a meal.
The huge bear paw landed on the giant tree, and under the double amplification of weight and strength, the tree visibly slipped downwards.
“Be careful!”
The companions on the other side and Goulbin could only be anxious, watching the Brown Bear exert force on the giant tree, powerless to do anything. A companion picked up a stone from the side and threw it at the Brown Bear, but it had no effect at all. It was like throwing a grain of sand on the bear’s body. It felt nothing and didn’t even bother to lift its head.
The combination of weight and strength was obviously not as simple as one plus one, and in just a few swats, the giant tree broke sharply and slid down again!
The massive tree fell toward the ravine!
This time, there were no boulders to catch the tree, and Bi Fang plummeted straight into the waterfall.
Below the giant tree, the waterfall surged wildly.
The viewers couldn’t help but shudder inwardly, filled with dread. They were already in a precarious situation, and now it had completely fallen into the abyss!
In the instant that the tree began to slip, Bi Fang’s gaze was firmly fixed on the tree. Feeling the moment of weightlessness, he held onto the tree. Taking advantage of the brief halt in midair, he flipped his entire body onto the tree, then hugged the trunk tightly, pressing his body against it and closing his eyes.
Several seconds later, the half-rotten behemoth crashed into the river, tumbling and making a thunderous noise, startling a flock of birds nestled in the forest.
Teammates and Goulbin hastily lay on the boulder looking down, as the mighty wind swept through from between the mountains of the Rocky Mountains. The vegetation in the ravine fluttered in layers, colors changing from greenish yellow to emerald green, mixed with the white of the frothing rapids.
But that familiar figure was nowhere to be seen.
Their hearts sank, yet they did not give up hope. They immediately moved along the boulder, inching closer to the bottom of the ravine, but hardly had they taken two steps when the fallen tree suddenly rose from the river.
Then the tree flipped over, revealing Bi Fang clutching it. Feeling himself above the water, he straightened his upper body, spat out some water, and before the others could react, he stood up from the log.
The waterfall splashed nearby, causing the log to continuously float and roll. Bi Fang, relying on his good balance, jumped from the log, leaping several steps back to shore.
He looked up at Brown Bear on the other side of the river. The fruitless Brown Bear roared a few times, its surging muscles like undulating hills, containing staggering power, but it couldn’t cross the ravine and ultimately turned away reluctantly.
Seeing Brown Bear leave, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Standing before you, a behemoth weighing over half a ton exerts an incomparable pressure. Even the Black Bear Master Fang encountered last time was a good half meter shorter in body length compared to this Brown Bear, there was simply no comparison!
“That was incredible, how did you do it?”
The teammate slid down from the boulder to Bi Fang’s side, his face full of astonishment.
To fall from a waterfall ten meters high and be completely unscathed!
This pool was not very deep, a slight carelessness could result in a collision with the giant rocks at the bottom!
“It’s quite simple, just hold on to it tightly,” Bi Fang said.
He pointed to the tree still in the river, which was now drifting downstream under the water’s influence, but soon it got stuck in the river channel.
The moment he fell, Bi Fang sharply tugged at the tree, accelerating its descent while also gaining a brief suspension for himself, balancing the fast and slow movements to adjust his position. When the log fell beside him, he grabbed it tightly.
Once he had hold of the log, everything was easy. All he needed was to ensure the log was oriented downward before hitting the water.
“The buoyancy of the wood is much greater than that of a human body, so it’s very hard for it to hit bottom or collide with the rocks. Even if it does, the tree provides cushioning. However, the prerequisite for this is to hold on to the tree very tightly, leaving no gap. At the moment of water contact, the pressure will be immense. If there’s any gap, you will feel as if you’ve been hit by a truck.”
“That’s amazing.”
Admiration filled the teammate’s eyes, unable to imagine how someone could make so many moves and reactions in just a few seconds of falling, as if survival instincts were etched into their DNA.
“If you entered the competition, no one would be able to win. I’m really thankful for this time. Once the show is over, I definitely have to treat you to a meal.”
Goulbin also chimed in with flattery, having been too fearful before. Now that Brown Bear had left, he realized how foolish his actions had been.
Unfortunately, Bi Fang didn’t pay much attention. If it wasn’t for this guy moving so slowly, he would not have gone through all this and would have simply walked across.
Not showing any annoyance was already a sign of great restraint.
Seeing Bi Fang’s indifference, Goulbin felt extremely awkward and wisely shut his mouth. Fortunately, the awkwardness didn’t last long as the roar of a helicopter began to sound.
The hoist ladder was lowered, picking them up and as losers, ferrying them away from the mountains.
