Chapter 243 - Old Photos
“No!” Ji Wen shook his head in horror. “I won’t take her with me anymore!”
However, he also had to make sure that Fang Xiaonuan would not talk him into doing bad things either. Fang Xiaonuan was not the most obedient girl.
Ji Wen said, “Uncle, you know that my relationship with Fang Xiaonuan isn’t ordinary, but…”
“What?” Ji Lingchen was a little unhappy. How dare he say that he had an unusual relationship with his wife? He even said that to his face.
“Although we’ve known each other since we were young,” Ji Wen stopped to rephrase. That did not sound right either.
“That’s right,” Ji Wen said. “We’ve been friends for so many years. I must say, she is not someone who likes to follow the rules.”
“I know,” Ji Lingchen replied after a moment of silence.
Ji Wen was shocked. His uncle knew it too?
“I asked you to come up because I want to ask you about someone else. Liu Siyu. Tell me everything you know about her.”
Ji Wen asked, “Uncle, why do you want Siyu’s information? If Fang Xiaonuan were to find out that you’re asking about other women, she’ll scratch up your face. Even if you’re asking about her best friend.”
Ji Lingchen glared at his nephew, a little angry. “Then, you won’t tell her. Hurry up and tell me!”
Ji Wen gave in to his uncle’s imposing manner and honestly told him everything he knew.
Meanwhile, Fang Xiaonuan was not idle either.
She went straight to Feng Qi, took her hand, and said, “Sister-in-law, I want to see some of the family’s old photos.”
“Why do you suddenly want to see the old photos?” Feng Qi was puzzled.
Fang Xiaonuan smiled. “It’s nothing. I just want to know what my husband used to look like.”
Feng Qi was smiling. Very few young people nowadays would try to get to know each other through photos. She put down what she was doing and led Fang Xiaonuan back to the bedroom. She then took out a thick photo album from a cabinet.
Feng Qi said, “When Lingchen was young, he would only pose for a photo on his birthday. Later on, he wouldn’t even do that.”
Fang Xiaonuan picked up the photo album and gently brushed off the layer of dust on it.
“No one really looks at this album, so I put it away,” Feng Qi said.
The two of them sat on the sofa and flipped through the photo album.
She opened the album, and the first photo was a family portrait of the Ji family.
Feng Qi pointed at the woman sitting on the stool in the photo. “She’s our mother-in-law.”
Fang Xiaonuan nodded, “She seems gentle.”
“That’s right. She’s the gentlest person I’ve ever met.” As she spoke, Feng Qi got swept up by her memories.
The two of them continued to flip through the photo album, and two children slowly appeared in the photos.
Feng Qi said, “The one in blue is Xiaowen, and the other one is…”
Feng Qi looked at the little girl in the photo album and fell silent.
“This must be Xiaoyu,” Fang Xiaonuan said.
Feng Qi looked at Fang Xiaonuan in surprise.
“Sister-in-law,” Fang Xiaonuan said to Feng Qi with a smile. “You don’t have to hide it from me. My husband has already told me everything.”
Ji Lingchen was not the sole reason she wanted to look through the photo album. In truth, she wanted to see what Ji Xiaoyu looked like.
Feng Qi sighed softly. “Lingchen has too many things on his mind. Perhaps only you can make him happier. Xiaonuan, promise me that no matter what, you won’t hurt Lingchen.”
Fang Xiaonuan smiled at Feng Qi and said, “Sister-in-law, you must be joking. I love him so much. How could I bear to hurt him? I promise that I will always be by his side.”
Feng Qi’s gaze was profound.
“Sister-in-law, tell me about Xiaoyu. My husband didn’t tell me much,” Fang Xiaonuan said.
“Xiaonuan, I hope that you won’t despise Lingchen after you find out about this,” Feng Qi said after some thought.
Fang Xiaonuan hurriedly nodded.
“Did you know that dad used to be involved in politics?” Feng Qi asked slowly.
Fang Xiaonuan had no idea that Old Master Ji was about the same age as her grandfather. To her, the things that Old Master Ji had experienced were as distant as history books.
Feng Qi said, “Back then, Dad held an important position in the government. He was ruthless and upright. Many people hated him. After that, some people secretly reported him for corruption. The people from the prosecutor’s office also deliberately delayed the investigation. They investigated him for a few months. In the end, dad was so angry that he quit his job the moment the investigation was over.”
During the investigation that year, Old Master Ji stayed at home for half a year, and he had almost delayed his child’s studies because of some groundless charges.
A few decades ago, no school would accept a child with a corrupt official for a father.
After waiting for half a year, he was finally proven innocent.
The moment the announcement was made, Old Master Ji immediately resigned and moved to the business world.
